Francisco Pérez Tamayo or Frank Fernández, as he is known artistically, is considered by critics as one of the five best pianists in the world and is distinguished as Artist Steinway.

Born on May 16, 1944 in Mayarí, this excellent musician, prolific composer and consecrated master, began to play with only 4 years of age. His mother, perceiving his artistic gifts, became his first teacher and initiator of a long and fruitful career.

The prestige it has achieved is based on versatility, effort and dedication to art. Frank Fernandez walks from the classic to the popular, but also acts as a teacher, orchestrator, researcher, composer and cultural promoter.

Not by chance, in his more than 44 years of artistic life, the specialized critic has described it as “a being touched by the divinity”.

The Frank Fernandez phenomenon is unique

Simultaneously with the knowledge of Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and other universal classics, Frank Fernandez has nurtured from the artistic wealth of Cubans musicians such as Sindo Garay, Pepe Sánchez, Manuel Corona and Miguel Matamoros.

He communicates with musical art, without scholastic differences between the classics and the popular, which represents the genesis of his art.

More than 34 countries of Europe, Asia and Latin America continents have acclaimed him for his performances, and acted as soloist in more than 100 symphony orchestras all over the world.

Among the highlights in his career are:

Presentation in Tokyo (1992). It was considered one of the most important cultural moments of that year in Japan.

Special guest at the Gala 50th Anniversary of UNESCO in Paris and Global Panel in Holland.

First Cuban pianist who performed in the Grand Hall of the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow.

He has more than one hundred records: Danzas de Cervantes, Lecuona-Gershwing, La Gran Rebelión, Bach-Chopin, Beethoven-Schuman, Lecuona-Cervantes, Todo Mozart, Cubano Universal and Amor y Dolor.

As a producer, performer and arranger, he has collaborated with musicians such as Silvio Rodríguez, Adalberto Álvarez and Anabel López.

I prepare as if to debut

In one of his most recent interviews, Frank Fernandez said: “I do not think that the technique of an artist can be separated from his spirituality. I do not trust in virtuosity and I prepare every day as if each presentation were my debut”.

What modesty and hard work! It is not by chance that their prodigious hands on the keyboard manage to turn every night into a song of sublime love, and wrap you in loneliness, nostalgia, longing and then, suddenly, you fall in love and make you feel like the only one spectator of the room. That is only achieved by the greatest, and Frank Fernandez is and will be one of them.
