MUSIC & SALSA IN HAVANA – 8 DAYS

Day 1: Arrival and Jazz Concert
Once you arrive in Havana you will be transferred to your accommodation.
Our guide will be waiting for you in order to have a brief information meeting where we will explain you the key points you need to know on your first day in Cuba: best concerts during that week, other music venues, top restaurants, Internet access… and the rest of activities scheduled for the rest of your trip.
Tonight you will attend a Jazz latin concert at Jazz Café, located next to the Malecon (sea boulevard).

 

Day 2: Percussion workshop and City Tour
A guide from the school will pick you up at your accommodation and take you to the school. There you will have your first music lesson. Today you will learn about the origins and the basic rhythms of Cuban music. You will have your first contact with the Percussion instruments such as congas (tumbadoras in Cuba), timbales, bongos, maracas, güiros, claves, shekere, etc…
After this two hour workshop we will visit the historic center of Havana, where the city tour will begin. During the tour you will visit the most important places of Old Havana including: plaza de S. Francisco de Asis, plaza de Armas, plaza de la Catedral and plaza Vieja.
The tour will end at a restaurant where you will have lunch.
Tonight we will learn more about Timba (Cuban salsa), as we will attend a music concert at “Casa de la Música de Miramar”.

 

Day 3: Salsa lesson and classic cars
Today it’s time for salsa! So get ready to dance Cuban salsa. We will start from the basic steps and learn the basic movements. After the salsa lesson you will be collected by a Classic Car that will take you to visit other neighbourhoods of Havana like: Playa, Miramar, Nuevo Vedado and Plaza de la Revolución.
Tonight’s concert will be about Trova (one of the most ancient expressions of Cuban music). Top Cuban “trovadores” are: Ray Fernandez, Tony Ávila, Frank Delgado or Jorgito Kamankola.

 

Day 4: Viñales
Prepare you camera for amazing views. This morning you will be collected at 8:30am as its time to visit one of the most beautiful places of this island: Viñales. Located 2.5 hours away from Havana, in the province of Pinar del Rio, Viñales valley has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Once you arrive, you will have the chance to see the amazing view from the “Mirador de los Jazmines”. Then you will visit a tobacco plantation before having lunch. You can return in the evening to Havana (or you can stay another day).

 

Day 5: Ensemble and Rumba
After several music lessons and concerts, it’s now the time to play with Cuban musicians. Once you arrive at the school, you will choose you favourite instrument and you will play your favourite Cuban songs with top Cuban musicians: “Chan Chan”, “Lágrimas Negras” or “El Cuarto de Tula”, are some of the songs more frequently required.
Tonight is time for Rumba, a music genre born out of slavery in 19th century.

 

Day 6: Beach day: Playas del Este and Cuban Jazz
After your breakfast a Taxi will be waiting for you to take you to the beach! Playas del Este is only 30 minutes away from Havana. Once there you will be able to enjoy the Caribbean sea for the rest of the day.
Tonight you will visit one of the top places for Cuban Jazz in Havana: “La Zorra y el Cuervo”.

 

 

Day 7: Master Class
Today you will receive a Master Class by a top Cuban musician. During the lesson you will be able to ask all your questions regarding Cuban music. The Master Class will not only be theoretical, but also practical.
Free rest of the day.
Tonight’s concert will be at “Fabrica de Arte Cubano” an amazing venue located in Vedado.

 

 

Day 8: Flight return
Today you will have free the morning so you can take your last mojito before getting to the airport for the return flight.
