What is MURIAS SON WEEK about?

An event that blends Cuban music with the rich history and natural beauty of Murias de Paredes, a small village in the province of León, Spain. Here are the details:

1. Historical Context: In the early 20th century, around three million Spaniards emigrated to America in search of a better life. Many of them settled in Cuba and put down roots there. Now, 100 years later, we want to pay tribute to the grandparents of the Cuban musicians who are thriving on the island.

2. Unique Experience: Murias Son Week offers a one-of-a-kind experience with only 10 available spots. It combines Cuban music with the natural beauty and history of Murias de Paredes.

3. Murias de Paredes: This small village in the province of León is special and unique. Despite its small population (only 300 people), it is located in the Omaña and Luna Biosphere Reserve. This area has been recognized by the FAO as an Important System of World Agricultural Heritage (SIPAM).

4. Music and Landscape: Imagine 18 hours of music featuring four top-level Cuban musicians, all set against a spectacular backdrop of mountains and nature.

The “Espirales” project, founded in 2023, brings together five graduates with a Gold Degree from the
University of the Arts of Cuba, who manage to perform perfectly in different genres and
styles, which is why very different influences are found in their repertoire, which allude to
chamber concert music, Cuban music, jazz and World Music.
